Glenmore girls gunning for national glory

ON Sunday next five of Glenmore AC’s youngest athletes make the trip to Tullamore Stadium to compete in the All Ireland Childrens Games and Combined Events.

The U9 girls are competing in a suite of events having qualified at the Louth and Leinster Championsh­ips.

The U9 relay team of Katie Mc Donald, Grace Keenan, Jessica White, Emma Mc Carragher and Aoife Keenan qualified comfortabl­y in both Louth and Leinster.

Three of the girls, Katie, Jessica and Emma changed from their communion dresses to the Glenmore singlet to ensure they qualified as Louth champions.

Their commitment has paid off! The team qualified first in their heat and went on to win the Leinster U9 club relay gold medal spot.

Emma McCarraghe­r and Katie McDonald will compete in the U9 All Ireland Javelin pairs having finished third at the Leinsters. Emma McCarraghe­r and Jessica White will compete in the U9 All-Ireland 300m pairs having qualified as silver medallists at the Leinsters. Katie and Jessica will then compete in the 60m All Ireland pairs having finished third at the Leinsters.

Meanwhile on Fridaylast Glenmore members, parents, athletes and supporters gathered for a social evening at the Granvue Hotel, Omeath to acknowledg­e the effort and commitment these young people put in all year round. A great night’s entertainm­ent was had by all.
