A STRONG line-up from Team DK (Dundalk Karate), consisting of Franciszek Chmielecki, Liam Hoey and Catherine Marcus, excelled yet again at the Annual Budo Nord Karate Competition which was held in the Tallaght Leisure Centre recently.

With the school year ending and summer holidays on the agenda, no-one took their eye off the ball and all three excelled in the spotlight.

Numerous clubs from all over Ireland travelled to Tallaght to compete in both Kata (form) and Kumite (fighting) and with huge numbers in all categories, competition was stiff for all members of Team DK.

Head of Dundalk Karate, Sensei Mary Marcus 2nd Dan said: ‘It’s great to see such enthusiasm from students and to see such brilliant results at such a high profile competition, is reward enough.

‘Not every competitor comes away with a medal, but to see a student compete and come away with or without a medal and say, I need to work on that kata more, or I need to improve that technique, that’s a true Karate-ka. Well Done to all Team DK members.’

Junior members Franciszek Chmielecki secured a bronze medal in Kata and Liam Hoey struck gold in Kata, while Cadet member, Catherine Marcus narrowly missed out on a medal this time round.

The next competition will be the inaugural CIKA European Championships, which are being held later this year in the National Basketball Arena, Dublin. Training continues for all members of Team DK throughout the summer months every Monday and Thursday in the Redeemer Family Resource Centre, Dundalk, from 7pm to 8pm.
