National Pen workers enjoy charity table quiz

FUNDRAISER IN AID OF DUNDALK DOG RESCUE

- Paddy and Ann Monahan, Woodbury Gardens, with Steven Campbell at the National Pen table quiz in Byrne’s Pub in aid of Dundalk Dog Rescue. Kevin Adams, Red Barns Road and Katherine Crosby, St. Nicholas Avenue Pamela McConnell, Dromiskin and Elaine Corbett,

ON Friday night we headed for Byrne’s bar where National Pen Social Club were running a table quiz as a fundraiser for Dundalk Dog Rescue and a good crowd had turned out specially for the occasion.

I wasn’t too long in the door when I met up with Kathleen Crosby from St. Nicholas Avenue, Gavin Lyons from Dromiskin, Kevin Adams from Redbarns Road, Pauline Markey from Cocklehill and Lynn McElligott from Brooke Street who were the main organised of the night and they told me they were looking forward to a great night with everyone who was ready to do battle.

I then decided to see who else was up for the competition and caught up with Edel and Brian Halpin from Redbarns Road who were enjoying the company of Aedin Martin and Gerry Nolan both from Dublin who told me they were ‘in it to win it’ and were particularly impressed with the raffle prizes on offer.

At an adjacent table I then got talking to a group who included Clara D’Amato, Frank Carta and Daniela Funagalli all from Roden Place who were enjoying the pre-quiz fun with Carla Lipardi and Giovanni Porgas from Carrickmacross who couldn’t wait for the crack to get under way.

Heading for another table I then met up with Johnny and David Logue who were over from Glasgow on holidays and were gatecrashing the quiz with Tom Quinn from Dunmor. Obviously the craic in the Big House wasn’t enough for the lads so they needed some mental stimulation at the quiz.

After this I headed over for a word with Matthew and Jenny O’Brien from Slane and Ollie Brookes from Navan who told me they don’t work with National Pen, they are friends of one of the organisers Gavin Lyons and told me they had been practising all week and were definitely there to win!

Not too long later I had the pleasure of meeting up with Elaine Corbett from Newry Road who was looking well and in great form. She was with her mates Pamela McConnell and Eamonn McAuley both from Dromiskin and when asked if she was ready for a thought provoking evening, said ‘ bring it on!’

Meanwhile up near the bar and extremely busy were Paddy and Ann Monahan from Woodbury Gardens who told me they are actually with Dundalk Dog and had come along on the night to help out.

They then introduced me to the quizmaster on the night Steven Campbell from Reaghstown who had plenty of hard questions and a music round that would stretch from the 70s to the present day.

Not too long later I caught up with Shane Moriarty, Eilis Lyons and Natasha O’Hare all from Dromiskin who were with Ciaran Hall from Priorland Gardens who eventually admitted to being a packed team and they had spare room in the car to take home all the trophies, allegedly!

One man who was on a major buzz on the night was Tomi Slav who told me had just completed his first week with the company, had great sales and now, seeing that it was Friday, would be relaxing and enjoying the quiz with his new friends.

Finally, before we departed I got a word with Lynn McElligott from Brooke Street and Pauline Markey from Cocklehill who said they were looking forward to the quiz and thought some the spot prizes looked tasty!
