Shopping & fundraising at Cooley country market

-

COOLEY Country Market takes place in Cooley Parochial Hall on this coming Sunday July 10 from 9 am to 1 pm. The market is a coming together of a local community, reaching out to support friends and neighbours who find themselves living under stress because of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Cooley markets are unique in that each item offered for sale at the markets is given free of charge. Each cent raised at the market goes directly to fund the services of The Birches Alzheimer Day Care Centre in Rath Abbey, Grange, Carlingford, and Dundalk. The markets are held twice per year, in July and December, and to date they have raised over €40,000 for this worthy cause.

The market is all about cre- ating awareness of Alzheimer’s disease, it’s about letting fellow parishioners know that they are not alone as they struggle to walk a path which sometimes can be challenging.

All the usual stalls will be at Cooley Country Market with a fanfare of fresh home baked foods taking pride of place in the hall. Beautiful Cooley fresh strawberries are now being gathered, and will be potted to create delicious fruit jams. There will be stalls selling free range eggs, vegetables, flowers, etc. There will be a wide variety of good quality bric a brac selling at reduced prices. All items offered for sale on the day must be sold so no reasonable offer will be refused.

Grandma’s country kitchen will also be open from early morning, offering a welcome cup of tea, coffee and delicious home baking to all shoppers.

Donations of home baking, jams, fruit, vegetables, bric a brac, garden furniture, bicycles etc are all warmly welcomed. The organisers of the market wish to thank all who have supported the markets so generously in the past. This ongoing support is deeply appreciated and has proved to be a vital part of securing the services of The Birches in Rath Abbey.

For those whose life is touched by Alzheimer’s disease, kindness, understanding and advice can always be found by ringing Olive on 042 9351388.
