Widespread shock at tragic death of much-loved Nicola

WIDESPREAD sympathy has been extended to the family of Dundalk woman Nicola Burns, who tragically lost her life in a road accident on Saturday night.

Gardaí in Kildare are investigat­ing a single vehicle traffic collision which occurred on the M9, between junction 1 and junction 2 southbound, near Kilcullen, at approximat­ely 8.30pm on July 9.

A female motorcycli­st in her 40s collided with the central divide on the motorway. She was pronounced dead at the scene. No other person was injured in the collision.

The road was closed for a time to facilitate a forensic examinatio­n.

Nicola, who resided at Mountain View, Reaghstown, Ardee, was formerly of Finnabair Crescent, Dundalk; and a keen motorcycle enthusiast.

She worked in Ardee, and has been described as very popular and much-liked.

Her colleagues in a motorcycle club said: ‘With heavy hearts, we attempt to come to terms with the tragic loss of one of our own.

‘Nicola ‘Nyx’ Burns, was a member of the Tattooed Ladies MCC, and long-standing member of the Celtic Sisterhood Associatio­n.

‘Nicola was a muchloved and much-respected female biker, and her loss has devastated us all.

‘Deepest and sincerest thoughts with Nicola’s family, and to all her close friends here in the CS.’

Nicola is survived by her father Kevin, mother Lilly, sister Clodagh Lennon, brother in law Mickey, nephews Sean, Ryan and Cian, uncles, aunts, cousins, family relatives and friends.

She is reposing in Shevlin’s Funeral Home, Barrack Street, Dundalk, from 12 noon on Wednesday until 9pm.

Removal on Thursday morning at 10.30am to Saint Mary’s Church, Ravensdale, arriving for Funeral Mass at 11am.

Burial afterwards in Calvary cemetery, Ravensdale.
