Dundalk trio make UL finals
LOCAL swimmers Donal Carty, Kate Delany and David Coyle competed at the Irish Age Groups Division 2 championships held at the University of Limerick’s 50m swimming pool recently.
The ADSC Club members had all achieved podium success at the highest provincial level during the year, qualifying them for this prestigious competition.
With 76 other clubs and 560 swimmers from the entire country in attendance, the standard of competition was at the highest level at what is regarded by Swim Ireland as the entry to the national competition pathway.
Donal Carty competed in the 100m Breaststroke, David Coyle in the 100m, 200m, 400m Freestyle and 200 Backstroke and Kate Delany in the 100m Backstroke, 200IM and the 200m backstroke.
All three swimmers distinguished themselves by reaching an evening final having qualified from preliminaries in the morning.
A highlight of the competition was a time trial event swam by visiting Senior Olympic Team GB swimmers James Guy (world 200m freestyle record holder), Cameron Kurle and Dan Wallace ahead of the Rio Olympic Games in August.
The trio are currently using the UL high-altitude training facilities as they prepare for the Games.
There was a great atmosphere throughout the championships which were a huge learning experience for the young swimmers from Dundalk.
