Lily’s planning for 2017

- By ANNE CAMPBELL

PLANS are already being made for the 2017 Lily Finnegan’s Rock ‘n’ Country Festival which this year raised an amazing €18,500 for charity.

The third annual Lily Finnegans Rock ‘n’ Country Festival in aid of Aoibheanns Pink Tie took place recently, and an incredible €18,500 was raised for the charity.

Two stages featured 16 bands including The Willing Fools, Sugartown Road and The Long Riders and they entertained the huge crowds all day long.

There was also a tribute on the day to the late Gene Berrill of The Long Riders.

Aoibheann’s Pink Tie ‘National Children’s Cancer Charity’ was set up in 2010 by Mick Rochford and Jimmy Norman after the tragic loss of Jimmy’s daughter Aoibheann to cancer aged just eight years. During Aoibheann’s year long battle, the family found little or no financial or practical support for children and their families.

When Aoibheann passed away the men wore pink ties at the funeral which was her favourite colour. The charity was formed in her memory to remedy the lack of support for other children and their families going through treatment.

At Lily Finnegan’s were kids and adult activities on site all day and the sun shone throughout making it the most successful festival yet.

The organisers would like to thank all the bands and acts who all gave their services for free, the prize sponsors, the landowners, all who baked and donated items and services, the helpers and stewards who were on site on the days leading up to the festival and for the clean up afterwards and to the local residents for their understanding and co-operation.

One of the organisers said: ‘It’s a truly unique event as there is no actual charge in and it’s up to the people to decide how much they donate. The generosity of this community and the wider area is overwhelming. We just can’t thank enough everyone who helped and plans are already underway for July 2017!
