Fechin’s in danger
bell fired home to give the home side a dream start.
In fairness to the Fechins they fought back well and kicked nine points in a row through Ronan Holcroft, Niall Devlin and Eoghan Duffy. The Mairtins finished the half stronger and kicked four unanswered points to leave it 2-4 0-9 to the Monasterboice outfit at half time.
The second half saw the return to action of Colm O’Neill after a long layoff. Two JP Rooney points were followed by a second Brian Berill goal which left the Fechins with a mountain to climb. Four further Mairtins points meant the game was over as a contest.
The Fechins fought to the end but couldn’t eat into the Mairtins lead. Three Holdcroft frees were followed by a Colm O’Neill point to finish the scoring. St Fechins will now have to regroup and hope to get their injured players back for the championship and league play-off.
