Patsy played an active part in local community life as a volunteer

Patsy Mulholland 1944 - 2016

PATSY Mulholland, 16 Marian Park, Dundalk died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday 23 July last.

Patsy was born in January 1944, he was the second on ten children to Patsy and Maisie Mulholland who raised their family in Fatima Park, Dundalk.

He attended De la Salle Primary School until the age of 14 years when he left to enter the workforce. Over the course of his working life he worked in various jobs including Tommy Mullens, The Linen Mills, G.E.C. Dunleer, CRV Ardee Road and most recently DkIT up until his retirement in recent years.

Patsy met Margaret (née McGuinness) and they married in January 1970. They had 4 children, daughters Mairead, Fiona and Aideen and son, Padraig. They lived in Drogheda for 5 years before returning to Dundalk and settling in Marian Park.

Patsy played an active part in local community life serving on the Marian Park Tenants Associatio­n and the local Neighbourh­ood Watch. He volunteere­d in the nearby Faughart Credit Union for many years and contribute­d to the education of his children by serving terms on Parents Associatio­ns and Boards of Management of their schools.

Patsyís main interest away from his family was undoubtedl­y centred around the sport of hurling, with his beloved club Naomh Moninne being to the fore.

He was a member from the beginning of the club in the 1950’s and served as player / coach/manager on both club and County teams during his lifetime.

Patsy was proud to be appointed to the position of Honorary President of Naomh Moninne HC some years ago.

The Annual Poc Fada competitio­n on the Cooley mountains was another of Patsy’s passions, with family camping trips being organised to coincide with the week prior to the event.

Since his retirement Patsy’s life centred around his grandchild­ren, Gemma, Nicola, Hazel, Amber, PJ, Sarah, John and Darragh. He never missed a school show, sporting event or birthday party, if it was possible to be there Patsy would.

Patsy is survived by his wife Margaret, children Mairead, Pádraig, Fiona and Aideen, mother, Mary, sisters, Briege, Patricia, Betnadette and Angela. Brothers Gerard, Noel and Jim, sons-in-law, Gerard and James, daughter-in-law Catherine, grandchild­ren Gemma, Nicola, Hazel, Amber, P. J., Sarah, John and Darragh, sisters and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews, many relatives and friends.

He was predecease­d by his father, Patrick, brother, Owen and sister, Philomena.

Patsy is pre deceased by his father Patrick, brother Owen and sister Philomena.

He was reposed in his home before removal to St Josephís Church, Fatime for Requiem Mass. His funeral Mass was conducted by Fr. Montague, with symbols of Patsy’s life presented by his grandchild­ren, Amber, Sarah, John and his niece Ciara.

The Readings were read by his daughter Fiona and his daughter in law, Cathy while the Prayers of the Faithful were read by granddaugh­ters, Gemma and Nicola, sisters Bernadette and Angela and sister in law Collette.

His daughter Mairead assisted the local Eucharisti­c Ministers. Patsy’s Eulogy was delivered by his son Padraig. The Cuchulainn Players sang while accompanyi­ng music was led by Oisin Drumm.

On Patsy’s journey from his home to the church he was greeted in Fatima Park by a large Guard of Honour from his beloved Club, Naomh Moninne and members of the Hurling fraternity, these hurlers remained and provided an emotional salute to Patsy as he travelled on his final journey to Brid a Crinn Graveyard.

Patsy’s Month’ss Mind Mass will be held in St Joseph’s Church, Fatima at 6pm on Saturday 27th August 2016.
