Owen Toal 1932 - 2016

OWEN Toal, Dublin Road, Moortown, Dromiskin, Dundalk who died peacefully in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital on July 15th was a highly respected member of the Dromiskin community where he farmed and lived all his life and was an acknowledg­ed as a fine judge of cattle.

Aged 84, Owen was a quiet, kind and gentle individual. He was the only son of the late Owen senior and May Toal who had also one daughter, Marion.

Owen was brought up on the family farm at Mooretown and received his education with the Christian Brothers in Dundalk After finishing school he worked alongside his father. In time he took over the running of the farm and cared for his parents

Farming was his life with cattle his sphere of enterprise and in which he acquired much expertise. A teetotalle­r and non-smoker his interests and leisure were linked with his occupation, travelling to cattle sales and attending the odd race meeting.

He enjoyed good and loyal and close friends who kept in contact and visited him regularly.

In his latter days his health declined and he had to cease his involvemen­t with the land. He continued to reside at home until very shortly prior to his death when he was admitted to hospital but didn’t respond to treatment and passed away.

Owen’s passing is deeply regretted by his sister, Marion Kerley, nephew, Gerard, niece, Brenda, grand nieces, Rachel and Rebecca, and other relatives and friends.

After reposing at his sister’s home at Mansfields­town, the removal of the remains took place to St. Peter’s Church, Dromiskin and were received by Very Rev. Patrick McEnroe P.P.

The funeral Mass the next day was celebrated by Fr. McEnroe who gave the eulogy. The Offertory gifts were brought to the altar by Owen’s nephew, Gerard and niece, Brenda. The singing was provided by Ruth Kelly.

Owen was laid to rest after Mass alongside his parents in Dromiskin
