-

St. Patricks u16 boys had a 2 point win over neighbours Cooley in the 2nd round of the championship on Monday evening last.

The Pats started strong scoring 4 early points but Cooley got into the game with 3 points to reduce the gap to 1. Joseph Connor helped increase the Pats lead with a shot from the left which went in off the posts to put the Pats back 4 ahead.

Evan Cronin had a great game at full back throughout the match constantly clearing the ball out of defence to deny Cooley further scores however both sides finished the half with 2 points each to leave the half time score - St.Patricks 1-6 v Cooley 0-5.

St.Patricks added a 2nd goal early in the 2nd with Joseph Connor getting his 2nd goal of the match which was fully deserved after a great performance. Cooley started to dominate in possession however with Martin McEneaney also having a great game in goals he denied Cooley a few great goal chances in the 2nd half.

Cooley did manage to get their goal to leave 3 between the sides with 14 minutes left and with less than 10 minutes left to play they were awarded a penalty. The penalty came off the post and with Cooley quickest to react they had a 2nd shot however Martin McEneaney once again made a superb save to deny them a score.

Cooley were left looking for goals to try and get something out of the game however with the Pats defence continuing to defend strongly they secured a 2-8 to 1-9 victory.
