Students react as they finally get their Leaving Cert results

-

The foyer of the new Marist school was abuzz with excitement on Wednesday morning as students returned to collect their Leaving Cert results.

The class of 2016, the first to sit the examination in the school’s beautiful new gymnasium, were among some 8,000 students from around the country who collected their results and anxiously checked to see if they had enough points to pursue the course or career of their dreams.

Principal Mr Con McGinley and vice-principal Mr Gerry Lambe were at the school doors to congratulate students on their achievements and to offer advice on the options available to those who weren’t sure if they had received the necessary points.

Despite the fact that students can now get their results on line, Mr McGinley said they found that most students like to call into the school to collect them as they can’t get them on line until 12noon.

‘We’ve never had so many as early as this,’ he said as a constant stream of students made their way to collect the brown envelopes laid out on tables in the bright and airy foyer.

He confirmed the national consensus that the maths and biology papers had thrown up surprises with some students not doing as well as they had hoped in these subjects.

Marcus McElroy from the Avenue Road said he was ‘delighted’ with his result. He hopes to do quanity surveying at DIT Dublin and was confident that he had enough points.

Yuliya Ivashyma admitted that the nerves were kicking in as she went to the school that morning but she was ‘ happy’ with her results which she hoped were enough to study mid-wifery in NUI Galway.

Likewise Conor Finn from Greenacres was happy with his result and has his eyes set on studying general sciences in Maynooth. While he found biology hard he was pleased with is B2 and was keeping his fingers crossed that his 415 points would secure a place.

Killian Kampas from Kilkerley was celebrating an A1 in history and paid tribute to his ‘great teacher, Mr Lally’. He was hoping to study primary school teaching in St Pat’s DCU.

Also hoping to be DCU bound was Emmet McCabe Savage from Belfry Drive who wants to study mechanical engineering.

A smiling Aoife Valentine from Blackrock said she was happy with her results and would be making up her mind what as to what option to choose in the coming year.
