County Council Chairman raises green flag in Blackrock Park
THERE were great celebrations as Paul Bell, Chairman of Louth County Council, performed the official raising of the e Green flag that Blackrock Park was recently awarded.
The award winning beautiful space in the picturesque village was presented with the Green Flag in the inaugural year of the initiative recognising community parks.
It was one of only 22 parks in the whole country to be presented with the flag.
The park was put forward for the awards by Louth County Council, after winning many accolades locally.
A spokesperson for the project said the award was a tribute to the ‘ hardworking park committee and all the volunteers, Tús, CES and Probation Service workers who put so much effort into planning and developing this outstanding amenity for Blackrock.’
‘ This award is another vindication of everything that has been done.’
Blackrock Park features a range of amenities for all ages from the biodiversity and sensory garden to the children’s playground and sports zone, and is a hugely popular facility in the village.
The flag raising ceremony on Thursday last was attended by Frank Pentony the Acting Chief Executive of the council along with other council officials.
They included Paddy Donnelly (Director of Services), Gerry Kelly (Senior Engineer) and Elias Mlimbila, who has guided the park’s development.
