DUNDALK’S newest theatre school, From the Top, established by Geraldine Pender enjoyed a successful first summer camp at the Wellington Hall last week where Tivoli Theatre panto star, Rob Murphy, known to his fans as ‘Buffy’ gave children a master class in acting.

Rob was one of a number of guest teachers at the week-long camp which focused on singing, dancing and acting for children from five to 12 years old and which was run by Geraldine.

Rob, who has been acting since a child, told the Argus he was delighted to be back in Dundalk, a town he knows very well having been involved in Dundalk Musical Society shows Cinderella, Snow White and Broadway and Beyond.

Rob, who is already rehearsing for his role as Buffy at the Tivoli Theatre panto later this year said: ‘I used to work with Dundalk Musical Society and have been good friends with Geraldine for the past 12 or 14 years. I have my own stage school in Dublin and I came to Dundalk to help Geraldine with the class today. I did scriptwork, comedy sketches, characterisation and a little bit of panto of course with the children who are five to 12 years old.

‘ The Musical Society is great and there is a great acting tradition in Dundalk. Having this stage school is brilliant because it introduces the children to performing arts at a young age.

‘Geraldine is very talented and Dundalk is lucky to have her set up this school in this area and I have no doubt it will go from success to success’.

Geraldine said she was delighted with the first summer camp and thanked Rob, along with the other guest teachers - Aoife Carney (dance), Linda White from Dublin Thunder Cheerleaders and dance teacher Jenna Nolan, who is going to be the From the Top dance teacher in September. Singing, dancing and acting classes at From the Top will take place on Thursdays at Wellington Hall starting on September 15. For more, contact Geraline at 0857674681.
