AFTER more than 2,000 weddings in the past 20 years, the management and owners of the renowned Darver Castle have announced a three year development plan which will see the construction of 38 new bedrooms and the upgrade of the wedding gardens.

Proprietors Aidan and Mary Carville said they were ‘delighted to announce a three year development plan which is very exciting for Darver Castle and the locality’.

They revealed that over the past 20 years Darver Castle has hosted in excess of 2,000 weddings and its wedding business continues to grow each year.

The Carville said: ‘ Over the next three years the development plan to upgrade Darver Castle includes the refurbishment of the civil ceremony room by the end of 2016, which is nearly completed.

‘Planning permission has been granted for 38 bedrooms which will be constructed in the courtyard during this development phase and this will necessitate the closing of the Grain Store restaurant at the end of this month. There will also be an extension of the bar in the main function room by 2018 and the ontinued enhancement of the wedding gardens

‘We have been in business for 20 years in Dundalk. During that time we have lovingly restored Darver Castle and we are proud and privileged to have become an integral part of the community.

‘We are excited about the development plans which will serve to further enhance the facilities for our guests. It is our intention to continue to invest in Darver Castle and are now looking forward to the next 20 years.

‘Our exciting new accommodation plans will not affect any weddings here at Darver Castle’.

At present, the castle is rented on an exclusive basis at weekends and can currently accommodate 22 guests, while there is additional accommodation in the Darver guest houses.

The Banquet hall can cater up to 300 guests for dinner and a further 100 guests for the evening reception and the intimate wedding room can cater up to 40 guests for dinner.

Only one wedding per day is catered for at the castle, this ensures total privacy with quality service combining to make the day memorable for both couples and their guests.
