Matthews.ie start new service to DCU

LOCAL students attending DCU received some welcome news this week with the announcement of a new daily direct bus service to the college from the north east.

Matthews.ie have announced that the first daily service to the college will begin on Monday September 19.

The service will leave the Marshes in Dundalk at 7.15am, serving Glenwood, DkIT, Monasterboice, Drogheda (7.40), City North (8.00), terminating at DCU at 8.30.

The return service leaves DCU at 17.15, reaching Drogheda at 17.47 and Dundalk at 18.30.

The service will operate five days a week and the college can be accessed by all other Matthews.ie services which serve Whitehall if students have a later lecture or finish before 17.15.

The service has been introduced due to increasing demand from students in the north east.

The service will run for the full academic year and passengers who usually use the Laytown/Bettystown service can access the service by getting a transfer ticket to City North at no extra cost and joining the DCU service there.

“One of the major factors behind Matthews.ie over the years has been the fact that students see the service as a low-cost, high-quality alternative to moving out of home.

‘ The price of accommodation in Dublin, combined with the speed and ease of our services, has meant that student commuting is now the new norm on the M1 corridor,’ said Matthews.ie Managing Director Paddy Matthews.

“Our cheaper ten-journey student tickets at €55 have proved to be invaluable to those who use our regular services to get to Dublin colleges such as DCU, St Pat’s, Trinity and DIT, or our special services to UCD – or indeed to DkIT or DIFE.

‘We are also now bringing a number of buses full of Dublin students to college in DkIT in Dundalk every day.

‘And our free Wi-Fi means that people tend to get some work done while they travel too!’

Matthews.ie are also aiming to give four college students a back to school boost by offering them free travel until Christmas.

The Matthews.ie Ticket To Ride competition is aimed at bringing some relief to hard-pressed students and their parents.

‘We want four students, one from the Dundalk area, one from the Drogheda area, one who uses our Bettystown service and one from Dublin who travels up to college in this area to be able to travel with Matthews for free until Christmas,” said Paddy.

‘ To enter, all you need to do is go to our Facebook page. The closing date is Friday September 16 and we would encourage parents to enter on behalf of their student children as very often it is they who are bearing the cost.’
