TESCO, it was revealed this week, has donated nearly €2 million through the Tesco Community Fund to over 5,000 local causes across Ireland, including €56,000 to those in County Louth.

And to celebrate this, on Saturday, September 17, Tesco stores across Louth will be throwing a ‘Communi-Tea’ party, to mark donating over €56,000 to good causes across the county.

All those that have benefited from the community fund to date; from schools and sports clubs to animal shelters and more; plus those interested in getting involved are invited to pop along to their local Tesco store for a cuppa and to highlight their good cause with Tesco customers.

The Communi-Tea party will take place nationwide and marks an important milestone for Tesco Ireland which has donated nearly €2million to over 5,000 local causes through the Tesco Community Fund.

To date in Louth alone, Tesco’s four stores have donated to 192 local projects totalling €56,000 since the launch of the Tesco Community Fund in 2014.

Christine Heffernan, Director of Corporate Affairs, Tesco Ireland said: ‘We are extremely proud of the positive impact our Community Fund has had to date.

‘We have utilised our 148 stores to help over 5,000 good causes across Ireland. Our customers are the driving force behind the initiative, deciding who in their community deserves a little help, and that’s why it works.

‘So we would urge everyone to keep this going and nominate a cause that could do with a little boost or that simply deserves some recognition for the great service it provides to the local area’.

Just last month, Bellurgan FC received a massive boost with a donation from the Tesco fund. They received a cheque from their local store in Dundalk and a few weeks later, they erected signs to promote the club’s main fundraiser, the club lotto.

In addition, the supermarket spent a day filming with the club and telling their story of the difference the Community Fund has had on Bellurgan FC.

Tesco is now making it easier for customers to support a cause that matters to them, with the launch of a new online nominations process for the Community Fund.

Online nominations will go live from 17th September, more information can be found at: www.tesco.ie/communityfund. Customers can now nominate either in their local store or online and every eight weeks, up to €1,000 will be shared between three local causes.

The Tesco Communi-Tea party will be taking place in Tesco stores nationwide on Saturday, September 17, between noon and 4pm.
