Third generation pupils begin at St. Louis

-

FOUR girls in St Louis Secondary School saw the transition to 1st year a lot easier knowing that they were coming to a school steeped in tradition for them!

Not only have they joined the ranks of Louis girls but their mothers and grandmothers are part of that tradition too.

Michelle Hoey’s daughter Keelin Mackin is in 1U. Michelle, who went to Knockbridge Primary School and from there to St Louis, is a graduate of the Class of ’93.

‘I loved the school when I was there myself. I always felt safe there and I made friends there who are my friends to this day. I know that Keelin will be happy there and it’s a great school. They have a fantastic pastoral care system there and look after the girls so well.

Michelle’s own mum, Keelin’s grandmother is also part of the St. Louis alumni! ‘She is a graduate of the Class of ’73. I’m looking forward to Keelin being a graduate of the Class of ’22!#

Alannah Byrne is lucky in that she has a sister to help her transition. However she also has plenty of advice from home as Mum Suzanne (Conlon) is a past pupil as is her grandmother Marie Mc Dermott.

Two other new pupils who are ‘ third generationers’ are Emma Verbeek, whose mother Louise Storey and grandmother Eileen Casey are past pupils, and Sophia Mc Cabe whose mother Rita Robinson and grandmother Joan Robinson also attended the school.

Also starting out is a second generation student, but in a different role. Charlene Woods is a former student as is her mother Claire and sister Caroline. Charlene is delighted to be starting her teaching journey in the school having excelled in her PME which she completed in June. “For me it’s all about wanting to give back to thank the school for all they have given me.

‘I am looking forward to inspiring the students here just as I was inspired by my own teachers when I wore the green uniform and sat at the other side of the desk!’
