ICA reigns at event

MEMBERS of Louth’s ICA federations braved the elements for a successful walk at the organisation’s headquarters at An Grianan in aid of their chosen charity, Drogheda Alzheimer’s Society earlier this month and helped raised vital funds for the group.

Louth ICA president Susan Potts said: ‘It was the most lovely day on Saturday despite the atrocious weather. Around 100 people braved the elements and completed the walk that brought them through the stunning grounds of An Grianan through Seapoint golf course onto the beach the back to the dining room in An Grianan for tea and scones and, more importantly, out of the rain.

‘ The support of the ICA women and their determination in doing the walk was good for the soul. We hope to support Drogheda Alzheimer’s Society going forward’.

Those people generous enough to raise €20 or more in sponsorship were invited to tea and scones with spot prizes included at the event.

Anne Shortt, chair of the Drogheda Alzheimer’s fundraising committee was introduced by Ms Potts, and Ms Shortt thanked everybody and spoke of the struggle in raising funds for their building project.

In addition, the ICA National President Marie O’Toole attended the tree planting ceremony where a native Irish Oak tree was planted in the walled garden in An Grianan after the Alzheimer’s walk and led the federation in the song ‘My Land’.

And the date for the Drogheda Alzheimer’s Society ‘Cycleton’ has been announced as Friday 16 and Saturday 17 September in Scotch Hall Drogheda and they will also be holding a raffle the following week.
