Moninne claim coveted O Broin title

FOUR teams took part in the U12 O Broin Shield hurling blitz in good conditions in Termonfeckin on Saturday afternoon. All teams played three games in the group stage of the competition to determine the finalist in both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ Shield competitions.

Group results: Naomh Moninne 1-2 St Fechins 1-0; Knockbridge 0-1 St Kevins/Mattock/Glen Emmets 5-4; Naomh Moninne 1-1 Kevins/Matt/G Emts 0-1; St Fechins 3-2 Knockbridge 0-1; Kevins/Matt/G Emts 1-0 St Fechins 2-1; Naomh Moninne 9-2 Knockbridge 0-1.

Based on these results it was holders Naomh Moninne that took on St Fechins in the ‘A’ Shield final with St Kevins/Mattock/Glen Emmets taking on Knockbridge in the ‘B’ Shield final.

The teams were tied at 0-2 a piece at half time in the ‘A’ Shield final but it was Moninne who upped their game in the second half and goals from Aaron McGuinness Smyth and Luke Conlon saw them capture the title for the third year in a row on a 2-2 to 0-2 scoreline.

Afterwards Michael O Broin presented the ‘A’ Shield to the Naomh Moninne captain Aaron McGuinness Smyth to the delight of all their supporters.

In the ‘B’ Shield final it was the combination team who got the better of holders Knockbridge on a final scoreline of 2-3 to 1-0. Afterwards Michael O Broin presented the ‘B’ Shield to their captain Ciaran King.
