ICAKeepfit
The local ICA continued their Keep Fit class over the summer when it was closed and weekly meetings were suspended.
The class is for the over 50s and takes place on Wednesday mornings, based in the community centre. Rogers and Evyn O’Callaghan. Under 8’s Sean McKenna and Odhran Mac Shane put in very impressive performances.
Kilkerley defeated the other St Peters side in the other semi and Kilkerley went on to win the shield competition.
In the cup semi finals Geraldines and a very impressive Navan O’Mahonys side had a very close fought match and the Geraldines came out on top after a sensational goal from Cian Spaight. The other semi final was also close with St. Pats eventually coming out on top against a very strong Joe’s team.
The final between the Pats and Gers was an extremely competitive game and the Pats edged home by two points after a very strong second half.
The entire Geraldines team played their part throughout with Cian Spaight giving his usual tireless ‘ Duracell battery’ performance. Shane Mullaney gave a string of big performances and Cillian Lynch had an outstanding day despite injuring his thumb early on. Eoin Rodgers came to life in the final scoring two lovely points and Shay Neary and Cormac Broe won ball after ball and distributed it superbly and Jamie Soraghan impressed at half forward.
Michael O’Brien from the Joes won the free kick competition after a shoot out with young Tadhg Fitzgerald from Kilkerley, while the penalty kick competition also came down to a sudden death shoot out between Conal Wilson and Oisin Haughey both from St Peters. Oisin finally eventually came out on top of this battle of the Lurgan sharp shooters.
After all the presentations were made everyone enjoyed the chicken curry and rice provided in the clubrooms.
A Big thank you to all the teams, coaches and parents for a super day. Also thanks to the man with the Megaphone, Brian Cafferty who helped the whole day run smoothly and to the four referees Nicky Mackin,Fionnuala Cafferty, Liam Cafferty and John Carr.
