Students are supported
IN 2008, the Dundalk Printers Social Club Committee embarked on a marvellous initiative to support third level students of their members and, in conjunction with Cuchullain Credit Union, set up a bursary where each year they award €1,500 to two students in full time education. The bursary is paid in three increments corresponding with college terms.
There are also 20 grants of €100 awarded to primary and secondary children of members. The initiative runs annually and has proved invaluable in assisting members in funding the education needs of many families.
Cuchullain Credit Union was founded originally for the purpose of helping people who worked in the printing industry in Dundalk and their families, back in the 1960’s.
On January 5 1967, the first organisational meeting was convened in the Labourer’s Hall in Clanbrassil Street. Seventeen members turned up, subscribed €1 each and with this €17 the first credit union in Dundalk was formed. Shortly after the first loan of €10 was granted and the rest is history.
Some years later it was decided to extend the common bond and it was this decision that started Cuchullain Credit Union today, which extends to any person living or working in Louth and joined the Dundalk Printers and Allied Trades Social Club, now referred to as the Social Club.
