Understrength Woodview run out of steam in Navan

- x

AN injury ravaged Woodview who had player manager Connor Macken deputising in goal put up a brave and spirited show for an hour before the effort took its toll on Friday night.

Macken’s appearance in goal, where he distinguished himself by saving a penalty, was part of wholesale changes enforced on Woodview.

Thankfully Macken’s injury that resulted in him being taken to hospital the previous Sunday turned out to be a bad sprain and not as feared a broken ankle.

His players responded to the injury crisis by dominating the play without creating much in the way of scoring chances in the first-half which ended scoreless.

The visitors introduced Ci- aran Clinton five minutes into the second half. He was carrying a hamstring injury which he aggravated in his first tackle and virtually was rendered a passenger from there to the finish.

Still they managed to go ahead when Kyle Kellegher ran onto a clearance following a free-kick and curled a delightful shot from the corner of the penalty box into the far top corner of the net.

Within a couple of minutes he turned from hero to villain when he conceded a penalty only for stand-in goalkeeper Macken to come to his rescue saving the spot kick.

But OMP with their tails up scored twice in three minutes to swing the outcome and sealed victory with a third goal five minutes from time. WOODVIEW: Connor Macken, Shea McArdle, Dylan Thornton, Kyle Carroll, Daniel English, Brendan McGuinness (Ciaran Clinton 50), Shane Bradley, Robert Mackin, Jason Myles, Niall Mackin, Dylan Hayes.
