Glenmuir enjoying road trips

-

GLENMUIR made it four wins from six games on the road, as they wait to play their first match at home on their return to the North East League.

They lie third in the fourth division table admittedly with a game more played, but are only a point behind the joint leaders, with this win on Sunday a further boost to confidence ending the hosts perfect start to the season with full points from their two outings.

They suffered a setback in the first-half with Andw Hayes having to retire on account of an injury after half a hour. Assistant manager Pat Crilly took over from him and played an important part in sealing victory, bravely scoring the side’s last goal.

The visitors took the lead roughly at the time they lost Hayes. Dano Kerr made a run down the left for his cross to cause a scramble in the home goalmouth and the ball broke to Carl Todd who stroked it to the net.

Skryne hit back to equalise within five minutes and that’s how the score stood at the break.

Conor Nicholson restored the lead for Glenmuir in the opening ten minutes of the second half with the Skyrne goalkeeper handing him a present as he mis-kicked a clearance when the ball was played back to him.

Brendan Sheils extended their advantage with a smashing half volley from the edge of the box into the top corner of the net. Nicholson created the opening taking a throw from Niall Hande to beat a defender and from near the corner flag pulled the ball back to the in-rushing Sheils.

Skryne reduced the arrears some ten minutes later, but Crilly ensured victory when he beat the advancing goalkeeper in a race for possession when from a free-kick from half way by Niall Hande the ball bounced over the home defence and Crilly re-acted quickest to volley it past the goalkeeper. GLENMUIR: John Burlingham, Edgar Bitanis, Niall Hande, Michael Keane, Shane Finnegan, Andrew Hayes (Pat Crilly 30), Daniel Kerr, Dino Stimac, Carl Todd, Conor Nicholson, Brendan Sheils.
