Watters on fire as Quay hit Blayney boys for six

-

QUAY CELTIC 6 BLAYNEY ACADEMY 1

THIS was a surprisingly one sided affair since it took the under-12 double champions extra-time to overcome the visitors to Clancy Park on Saturday morning in the semi-final of the cup last season.

However, the explanation lay in the fact that Blayney arrived with ten players and Quay fully exploited the wide open spaces of the big pitch to stroll into the next round of the Skechers under-13 national cup.

The talented Jack Watters spearheaded the way with a hat- trick, and Oisin Coleman who was also to the forefront nabbed a brace, while substitute Wan Savshak capped a fine cameo performance by completing the winners tally.

Watters nodded Quay in front from a cross by Conall O’Callaghan but within minutes Blayney scored a shock equaliser with a long range free-kick sailing over Connor Crawley who had no chance of stopping it as it sailed in under the crossbar.

However, Watters just as quickly again put Quay back ahead when he peeled off a defender in the box to make room to unleash a cracking angled drive into the far top corner of the net.

Coleman then took over the scoring mantle as the play was all concentrated in the Blayney half and much of it near and inside their penalty box. He let fly from a central position outside the penalty box, and the ball squirmed underneath the body of the diving goalkeeper.

He then made it 4-1 and as good as booked his side’s ticket into the next round, as Blayney had yet another of many escapes as the ball rebounded off the crossbar. But it was short lived with Coleman following up to ram the rebound home.

Watters completed his hattrick shortly after the break when released inside the penalty box by Sam Malone, and Quay could afford to take the foot off the accelerator.

Before the end however Savshak added the game’s final goal when Blayney struggled to clear the ball after a corner kick.
