- AIDEEN COSGROVE (NÉE MARTIN) 1966-2016 Aideen Cosgrove.

AIDEEN Cosgrove (nee Martin) Oaklawns, Dundalk, and formerly of Seafield Lawns and Blackrock, passed away on 27 August, surrounded by her loving family, in the care of the wonderful staff of ground floor east in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital after a short battle fought with bravery, courage and dignity.

Aideen spent the early years of her life in Blackrock, attended Blackrock NS, followed by St Louis secondary school after the family moved to Seafield Lawns.

Here, Aideen spent many happy years and made lifelong friends. Only a few years ago she enjoyed the Seafield Lawns reunion, meeting up with all her old friends and reminiscing about all their young and lively days spent together.

After leaving school and completing a secretarial course, Aideen started her long and successful career in Weyenberg, then moving to a number of local businesses, including Key Tronic, where she spent many years and was a dedicated and loyal employee.

During her career she travelled widely as part of her job and enjoyed this side of her work. She continued to work right up until her illness made it impossible.

She was an avid reader and kept all of her books. She loved socialising and enjoyed nothing more than a good night’s fun and craic with her friends.

Aideen loved the sun and looked forward to her annual sun holidays with her children, and even during her illness she enjoyed nothing better than sitting in the garden soaking up the rays.

Only three weeks before she died she enjoyed a family picnic in the grounds of Beaumont hospital on a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon arranged by Aideen.

Aideen’s short life was dedicated to her two children, Sean and Sarah, whom she loved dearly, and they will miss her terribly. During this time, she did all she could to provide for and nurture them, creating a loving, secure and comfortable home environment.

Aideen’s passing has left a deep void in the lives of her children, family and friends. She was predeceased by her dad Paddy Martin.

Aideen will be forever remembered by her children, Sean and Sarah, her mum, Margaret Byrne and her husband, Noel Byrne, her brothers and sisters, Diane Arthur (Blackrock), Eimear O’Hanlon (Manydown Close), Kevin Martin (Seafield Lawns), Clodagh Quinn (Blackrock), Fiona Squibb (Dundalk), Karen Martin (England), Drew Martin (England), brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, relatives and many close friends, particularly Deirdre Kilkenny and Noleen Reynolds.

After reposing at her mother’s house at Rathmount, Blackrock, Aideen was taken on Monday morning to St Joseph’s Redemptorist Church where Fr. Michael Cusack celebrated Requiem Mass with a moving and fitting tribute to her life.

The Readings were read by her sister, Clodagh and her niece, Jane. Her mum and friend Deirdre did the Offertory. Prayers of the Faithful were read by her brother, Drew, her friend Noleen, her brother, Kevin and sister, Eimear. Burial followed in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Month’s mind will be held in St Joseph’s Redemptorist Church on 25 September at 12.30pm.
