Winter League gets underway this weekend

-

THE North Louth Winter League gets underway this coming weekend with a full round of fixtures due to take place.

Of course every team taking part will be hoping for a good start to the season but there are a number of standout teams.

Last year’s champions, Greenfield, are the obvious favourites but Carlingford have a strong squad and on paper look capable of causing a few surprises.

Ravensdale, with new man- ager Conal Laverty, and Edentubber are possible outsiders while new team, Setanta, will also be closely watched.

Ten teams have registered for this season’s league and the fixtures for Sunday’s first round are as follows; last year’s champions, Greenfield, entertain Castletown while Ramparts take on Ravensdale. Carlingford play Hayenstown while Edentubber travel to Glenmore to take on The Glen. New side, Setanta, play Faughart at Ravensdale.

The annual General Meeting of the League took place recently in Martin’s of Riverstown and the meeting elected the following to guide the league through this season’s competitions;

Michael O’Reilly, Chairman; Stephen White, Secretary; Ignatius Magee, Registrar; Gary McKeown, Treasurer.

The rest of the committee is made up of a member from each of the competing teams.

Weekly updates and reports throughout the season will be in the Argus.
