FILE TO DPP ON TAXI MAN MURDER
A file has been sent to the DPP in connection with the murder of Dundalk taxi driver, Martin Mulligan (pictured), whose first anniversary occurs on Wednesday.
Gardai in Dundalk confirmed to the Argus that a file on the brutal killing, which shocked the whole Dundalk community, has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for consideration.
The news comes almost exactly a year after the body of Mr Mulligan (53) from Point Road was found close to his taxi at Carnmore, Kilcurry on September 28 2015.
In May this year, a 22-year-old man was arrested and questioned before being released without charge.
The same week, Gardai confirmed that ‘follow-up searches’ carried out on the Armagh Road were linked to the discovery of a knife. In April investigators thanked the public for their assistance and said that ‘significant progress’ had been made.
Mr Mulligan suffered a number of stab wounds during an attack.
He was a hard-working man who cared for his family, had a great sense of humour, always had a smile on his face and love of his native place and of sport.
The popular and respected Mr Mulligan was a married father of two daughters and on Sunday, a large group of family and friends attended his first anniversary Mass at St Joseph’s Redemptorist Church, Dundalk.
