Olympic gold star Eve McCrystal to attend St Vincent’s Run

- By ANNE CAMPBELL

THE organisers of next month’s St Vincent’s Run have confirmed that Olympic gold medal star and former student, Eve McCrystal, will attend the event.

Pre-registration for the run, which takes place on October 2, has been generating a lot of interest and excitement since the start of the school year and principal Deirdre Matthews explained that it has helped kick-start a wide range of health and fitness-based activities in the school.

Ms Matthews said: ‘ The October 2 run is part of a wide range of health and fitness awareness programmes being run in the school this year, incorporating healthy eating and mental wellness also.

‘And thanks to Peter Conlon, from Conlon’s Food Hall, because he is working with our Home Economics department throughout the year about a healthier approach to food and he is also sponsoring this run’.

The school has already attracted the interest of the students of their sister site, Our Lady’s Secondary School, who are running in the event as part of their Gaisce award programme and there is an open invitation for past pupils of St Vincent’s to take part to raise not only funds for the school but more awareness among young woman about the importance of making healthy choices in their lives.

Registration for the St Vincent’s Run, which is approved by Athletics Ireland and starts from St Helena Park, takes place on the day, and also all this week in the school from 9am to 4pm.

Ms Matthews says that everyone is welcome.
