Gardai investigate Dundalk post delay
DUNDALK Gardai have searched a private residence and interviewed a man in relation to undelivered mail in the Dundalk area.
It is understood bags of post were found at his home, some dating back months, during the search last week, the news of which was first revealed by LMFM News earlier today (Tuesday).
LMFM said: ‘One customer received a letter posted in October last year on Friday, and another received five letters on Saturday – including two for colonoscopy appointments and another for an appointment at the eye clinic in the Louth County Hospital, which they missed as a result of the delay’.
Gardai said a search warrant was executed at a private residence in the Dundalk area last week and a man was interviewed about bags of undelivered post alleged to have been found in the house.
In a statement, An Post said: ‘An Post regrets to confirm that a serious matter has come to light in Dundalk. An amount of mail was recently found at a location in the greater Dundalk area and the circumstances of the find are currently subject to an investigation by An Post and the Gardai.
‘Following initial examination at the scene by Gardai, the mail in question was returned to An Post. It is now being delivered, together with an explanatory note which apologises for the inconvenience caused by the delay.
‘Given the ongoing investigation, we are not in a position to comment any further at this time’.
