BLACK BULL 4 WOODVIEW CELTIC 2

A short-handed Woodview went down to their fourth defeat in five games but manager Conor Macken was encouraged with the performance against the first division leaders on Friday night.

They have endured a tough starting programme mainly away from home against the leading teams and a controversial goal had a big bearing on this result, with the aggrieved Woodview manager booked for protesting over the decision.

His side had fought back to get quickly on terms after they had fallen behind after ten minutes as a result of a blunder by the normally reliable Padraig Gorham.

Five minutes later Dean Brown equalised, finishing off in style great build-up play. Daniel English who was the visitors most influential player was central in the move that saw him make a break up the left and link up with Jason Myles to receive the ball back to slide it into Browne who dummied a defender and spun and shot into the bottom corner,.

But five minutes later again Black Bull regained the lead with a goal which Woodview disputed was offside.

The home side increased their lead, with Woodview caught out by a free-kick to the back post which was headed to their net.

Manager Macken reduced the deficit when he volleyed home a free kick played to the back post by Brown in the second half, and then decided to gamble on securing an equaliser with less than ten minutes left by pushing forward a defender.

This left gaps in the Woodview defence and Black Bull counter attacked from a free kick played down the left side of their box.

Gorham bravely thwarted them with a great save but the ball broke straight back to the home attacker and he made sure the second time to clinch the points. WOODVIEW: Padraig Gorham, Shea McArdle, Connor Macken, Shane Taaffe , Daniel English, Dean Browne, Kyle Carroll, Dylan Thornton, Jason Myles (Robert Mackin 50), Stephen Cooney, Niall Mackin (Dylan Hayes).
