Hat-trick hero Sean inspires Woodview

-

attacking prowess with Daniel Makisnov with a strong run down the left to get the better of a chasing opponent to shoot just wide and Josh Reilly displayed wonderful footwork to weave through the middle past a succession of players.

However, Woodview struck right back to earn the first corner kick of the game which resulted in a scramble in the Quay goalmouth and Sean Taheny tapped the ball home from close range.

A driving run on the right by Cian Walsh paved the way for Adam Finn to double the visitors advantage.

Reilly exhibited his menace again as he found wide open space on the left only for a Woodview defender to race back and nick the ball off his toe for a corner.

But there was nothing Woodview could do as Daniel Makisov volleyed home from inside the penalty box after ten minutes as they struggled to clear from the flag kick.

The same player went ever so close to equalising less than five minutes later when he broke clear into the Woodview box. Goalkeeper Andrew Begley partly blocked his shot and two defenders combined to clear the danger from in front of their goalline.

It was a short reprieve as Damien McKeown dispossessed a Woodview defender from a long ball played over the defence, and showed great composure to fire low past the goalkeeper into the corner of the net for the equaliser.

But Cian Walsh put Woodview back in front before the break as the ball bobbled about the home box.

The visitors had the Quay defence in a frightful tangle straight after the break, with goalkeeper Begley saving from point blank rage and two other Woodview players had scoring attempts before the ball was scrambled clear.

Then in less than five minutes later the same combination re-established Woodview’s grip on the game with Jack Conachy the architect as he twice put away Taheny to score and complete his hat-trick.

They held onto it this time although Oisin McBride scored with a cracking free-kick for Quay from outside the penalty box. But Cian Walsh restored Woodview’s three goal cushion when he headed Josh Boland’s cross to the net.
