Meanwhile, The Stag’s Head recently launched its Champions League Of Darts. It’s a new concept for both Dundalk and a wider area and incorporates at least eight different cup competitions played over 10 months with points being awarded to those who reach the quarter-finals or better.

fter the final competition has been played the top 12 players on points will automatically qualify for the finals and the next eight players will play off for the final four places.

With a minimum prize pot of €1,000 guaranteed for the finals night there’s sure to be a lot of interest in the Qualifiers.

Also, all entrance money paid into each event will be paid out at each competition also.

The cup competitions are a mixture of either singles, doubles, 3-a-side or mixed 3-a-side. All competitions are open to throwers.

On Thursday last the first of the qualifiers was run for the Michael Quigley Cup. With a good crowd in attendance the level of darts was unsurprisingly at a very high standard.

The shout of a ‘180’ being hit was a regular occurrence over the course of the night. With the ‘Alan Quigley Award For Highest Checkout’ also up for grabs the attempts at big checkouts were being tried in most games.

At the business end of things it was Alan Reenan and John Donnelly who took on Thomas McCartney and Raymie Carroll in the final.

Even though the game was best of nine, due to the quality of darts being thrown each game was over in a few minutes with Alan and John winning 5-2 in a brilliant match. all
