VEGAS LAUNCH NITE

Kilkerley Emmets hold a launch night this Friday night in Callans of Phillipsto­wn of their upcoming Crazy Vegas Experience Casino night taking place in Crown Plaza Hotel, Dundalk on November 12. The All Ireland final replay ticket draw raffle will also take place this Friday night at the launch.

LOURDES COMMITTEE

Kilkerley Lourdes Committee held their AGM in the Parochial House, Kilkerley on Tuesday, last September 20. The following officers were elected: Chairperso­n: Fr. Paddy Rushe, C.C.;Vice-Chairperso­n: Fr. Gerry Campbell, P.P.; Secretary: Kathleen McCreesh Treasurer: Anne Murphy; Assistant Treasurer: Kathleen Sharkey. RECENT DEATHS

Sympathy is extended to Grainne and David Corrigan and family Maghereagh and to Deirdre and Ian McEnteggar­t and family Cavananore on the death of Breige Maguire, Dundalk, mother of Grainne and Deirdre who was laid to rest in Dowdallshi­ll Cemetery on Tueday week last.

ANCESTORS

Four visitors from Chicago were in the parish recently, hoping to catch up on informatio­n about their ancestors. Their grandmothe­r Julia McGuinness who was born in 1896 in Kilkerley, (to parents Patrick McGuinness and his wife who was nee Clark), had emigrated from Kilkerley in her teens to Chicago. So if anyone can help on this it would be most appreciate­d and if so please contact 086 8338531.

BOWLS TOURNAMENT

The 14th annual Open Triples Tournament hosted by Kilkerley Bowls Club was held in the Community Centre last week. Heats on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday with the 8 teams qualifyier­s contesting the finals on Friday night:- Niall Hand, Corduff, Tom Devin, Redeemer, Danny McDonald, St Anthony’s, Craigavon, Fra Dillon, Redeemer, Gerard Conroy, Fintona, Thomas Gartland, Killanny, Patricia Hanlon, Cooley, Gerry McCabe, Cooley.

The quarter-finals saw the Triples teams of Danny, Thomas, Niall and Gerry progress to the semi-finals where Danny’s team defeated the trio from Killanny and the Hand brothers overcame Gerry Mc Cabe’s team. Spectators were treated to excellent bowling in the final by two great teams before Niall, Shane and Jason Hand claimed victory over Danny, Eileen McDonald and Pat Garvey. The winners were presented with the beautiful Hanratty Cup and inscribed glass trophies by the sponsor Dermot Hanratty and all the qualifiers received trophies.

The Club wish to thank Dermot Hanratty for his continued generous support of the Triples Tournament and the Club members who helped in any way make the Tournament so successful. Special thanks to Peter and Tom who acted as MC during the Tournament and to Donal the umpire. Congratula­tions to the winners and well done to everyone who competed.

Club members will take part in the Geraldine’s Singles Tournament this week and in the Cooley Pairs Tournament next week and once again this year the Club will compete in Division 2 of the Oriel Zone League. Kilkerley Bowls Club continue each Wednesday from 7.45pm to 10.00pm in Kilkerley Community Centre. New members are most welcome to join the club.

Kilkerley/Mochtas/Malachis minors are into the League final after the semi-final win over Hunterstow­n/Mattock 2-12 to 1-8. Scorers: Dean Bourton 2-4, Liam Kindlon 0-5, Killian Kampes, Cormac Smyth and Gerry Garland 0-1 each. The U16 team lost Division1B, League semi final away to St Pats 1-12 to 1-10. The U15 team lost in Division 1 League to Cooley 3-11 to 1-9. Another great performanc­e against a very strong Cooley side, having been level mid second half. The U14 put in a tremendous performanc­e in the semi-final of the U14 championsh­ip against O’Raghaillai­ghs but just came up short on a scoreline of 3-6 to 1-17. Team: Calum Mulholland; Niall Quigley, Conor Conway, Kyle McFadden; Conall Quinn, Shane McMenamin 1-0, Pauraic McGee; Aaron Crawford, Mark McShane; Morgan Quigley, Shay Coleman, Conal Brady; Patrick Murtagh 1-4, Rory Kirk 0-1, Brian Brady 1-1. Subs used: Joe Lennon Calum Bourton Liam Cawley and Matthew Quigley. The team have now the Division Two final still to play. Well done to all players on such a gallant effort. GIRLS WIN

Kilkerley U10 girls played in the Geraldines tournament with 11 other teams taking part and were grouped with Carrickcru­ppen, Hunterstow­n and St Fechins. Victory came in the first two matches over Carrickcru­ppen and St Fechins but lost to Hunterstow­n. The Cup semi-final match was against Geraldines, and a half time lead of six points seemed a good position but the home team performed very well in the second period to secure a win.

At the end of the tournament the girls were presented with medals for their brilliant contributi­on to this excellentl­y run tournament.
