Louth villages get €380,000 for vital renewal works

Louth’s scenic hotspots are set for a funding boost under the new Town and Village Renewal scheme.

A total of €380,000 is being awarded to towns and villages in Louth is being used for a wide variety of projects, identified by Louth County Council, in conjunctio­n with local community groups and businesses in Louth.

These include improving playground­s and footpaths, tourism amenities, public art pieces and a wide range of works to improve the streetscap­e and public realm of towns and villages nationwide, to help make towns and villages in Louth more attractive and more sustainabl­e places in which to live and work.

Dundalk councillor Maria Doyle welcomed the funding which she explained was set to be used for vital upgrading projects.

‘I welcome all the €380,00 which has been allocated un- der this scheme to Louth and in particular, the €42,925 for Blackrock.’

This money will go towards the upgrading of the sea wall at the car park, drainage works in Blackrock Park and the resurfacin­g of the car park at the Community Centre.’

Other projects being funded in north Louth include €30,600 to Dromiskin for civil works to create a heritage park in the village centre, €25,000 for road improvemen­ts at Grange, and €28,900 for Omeath where there are plans to extend the playground and undertake minor roadworks and visual enhancemen­ts.

Cllr Doyle added: ‘Last week I was delighted to meet Taoiseach Enda Kenny, and I took the opportunit­y to raise with him the issue of investing in flood defences and flood prevention works.

Louth County Council must continue to ensure our flood prevention measures are maintained and not left on the long finger for Cfram to deal with.’
