A Taste of Louth returns to Marshes
FAIR CELEBRATES LOCALLY PRODUCED FOOD AND CRAFTS
CHRISTMAS is coming and it’s time to start thinking about feasting and gifts. And there’s no better place to start than visiting the popular A Taste of Louth food and craft fair which returns to The Marshes Shopping Centre this weekend.
The fair, which is organised by the Parents and Friends of the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland, aims at celebrating the high quality and diversity of the superb local artisan food producers and the versatility, talent and skill of local craft producers. A whole host of top class artisan producers from the North East will feature at the festival to ensure that visitors can get everything they need for the Christmas season- from local culinary delights to bespoke crafts and unique gifts ideal for family and friends.
This corner of the North East is becoming recognised as a area for food production as well as a foodie destination through the Boyne Valley Food Group.
As consumers and diners become more conscious of the importance of traceability and sustainability in the food we eat, there is a growing demand for locally produced and artisan foodstuffs.
This is reflected in the number of local producers whose products can be found on the shelves of speciality shops, supermarkets and restaurants and at fairs such as A Taste of Louth.
Indeed, a visit to A Taste of Louth highlights the wealth of our small producers who are making everything from farmhouse cheeses to Indian chutneys, from cider to cordials and speciality teas, from beers to sauces and from cookies to cupcakes.
For those wishing to brush up on their own culinary skills, there will be lots of free cookery demonstrations from local chefs in the Chef ’s Kitchen.
And the young Cavan Chef Adrian Martin, whose recent show can be found on the RTE Player, will be returning to show audiences how to cook exciting recipes using local ingredients.
Favourite events including the schools’ cupcake challenge and children’s colouring competition are also taking place.
There will also be the opportunity to get in some early Christmas shopping with stalls featuring the work of some of the region’s finest craft makers and artists, with prints, candles, wooden chopping and cheese boards, books and illustrations, and lots more for all the family,
The young strings musicians from the amazing Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland will be performing throughout the two days. THE orchestra, which was founded in 1995, is already preparing for the for Peace Proms 2017 tour of Ireland and the UK. Earlier this year, the orchestra had the honour of performing at the first event marking the start of the 1916 centenary celebrations in the National Convention Centre on January 1.
