It’s all ‘White’ on the night
THE DFP Pension and Investment singles scratch matchplay concluded with the presentation of prizes on Saturday in Dundalk clubhouse.
One handicapper Robert White was the very worthy winner of the competition that involved the senior and junior players of the club battling it out over the summer months.
The cream surfaced entering the penultimate stage, with Robert pitted against Caolan Rafferty, the club’s current senior scratch cup holder who helped Leinster to victory in this year’s senior inter-provincial series.
In an absorbing tussle played in soaking wet conditions, Robert prevailed on the last green. It was just as tight and intriguing in the other semi-final with the club’s other headline plus player Aaron Grant taken all the way as well by Conor Curran before winning.
The question was could Robert repeat his giant-killing, and sure enough he did, as he emerged in style as the inaugural champion.
The competition was run simultaneously with the club’s participation in the junior and senior inter club events, and the senior team qualified for a rare appearance in the provincial finals of the Barton Shield.
‘No doubt it helped prepare the players and sharpened their games for the higher demands of inter-club competition. Hopefully the competition will be repeated next year with even better results for the club, perhaps an elusive senior provincial pennant.’ commented Eoin Doohan, MD of DFP in presenting the prizes.
Eoin previously played on one of the distinguished Dundalk teams to reach the provincial finals of the Barton Shield.
