I headed for the Rugby Club where a lavish 30th birthday party was taking place for Darren Guest from Pinstripe Punk in Crowe Street and there to make sure he had a helluva night was his parents Fra and Ramona Guest from Annaskeagh, sister Rachael and his partner Mary McManus from Parnell Park and a huge collection of family and friends.

I then decided to have a look around to see who was there and met up with aunt and neighbours Moninna and Shauna Grey from Mountpleasant who wanted Darren all the best on his big night.

Not too far away I met up with Dara Curran from Priorland Grove and Aidan McGuinness from Ard Easmuinn who told me they are old schoolmates of Darren’s and that even if it was a bit quiet at the moment they were definitely ready should the night escalate into anything major!

I then had the pleasure of talking to Pauline Kerr from Chapel Street and aunty Marian Gray from Mountpleasant who were there with respective husbands Aidan and Eamon and were looking forward to a real night to remembered.

Meanwhile up near the bar I got a word with Ryan Smyth from Forkhill who told me he works in Pinstripe Punk with Darren and he was with one of the shop’s best customers Jordan McLoughlin from Castle Heights and Niall Breen from Crossmaglen who assured me it was definitely going to be a wild one for certain.

Making my way over to one of the tables I met up with my neighbours cousin Joanne Duffy and Mick Barry who wanted to wish Darren a happy birthday and told me it was going to be anything but a quiet celebration. Yea, yea, yea, but when are we gonna see this dog you were talking about Mick?

After this I headed for the who all wanted to wish Darren a happy 30th and were definitely up for making the best of his big bash.

Not too far away I caught up with Adele Grey’s table (Mary’s family) where I met up with parents Pauline and David from Mulholland Avenue, Lauren, Nigel and Audrey from Lios Mead, Mark from St. Nicholas Avenue, Brendan and Mandy McDermott and Carmel Dunne from Greenacres who all wanted to wish Darren all the best on his big night.

Not too far away I met up with cousin Adele Grey from Mountpleasant with her fiancé Shane Hession from Point Road and they were on for a major night of fun with Darren and all his friends.

Taking a rest after setting up in readiness for knocking their socks off were the dynamic duo Gerry Larkin and Keenan Copas who were guaranteed to have the place jumping later on with a fine selection of songs.

Making my way through the crowds I then got talking to Aoife Mullen from Castletown Road who was with Kim Duffy from Belfry Gardens, Mary and Mickey Mullen from Castletown Cross who told me they have been long-time friends of Darren’s mum and were going to have an excellent night.

Standing close by were uncle Eamon Grey from Mountpleasant and Ann Finn from Carrick Road who were there to party on all night and were going to make it a wild one!

Next I caught up with Aine Scully from Knockbridge and Dara Herr from Hackballscross who told me they are friends of Darren’s for years and it was going to be ‘anything but’ a quiet celebration.

I then got talking to cousin Oisin Finn from Carrick Road who was having a laugh with Aidan McGuinness who assured me it was going to be an epic celebration.

Not too long later I met up with Paul and Margaret Dolan from Haggardstown who are family friends and were in form for a great night with the Guest’s and wanted to wish Darren a happy 30th.

After this I met up with brother and sister Padraig Boylan from Chapel Street and Pauline Kerr from Newry who was with her husband Aidan and they wanted to wish nephew all the best on his big night.

Next I caught up with longtime friend Alan McGrath from Thomas Street who was there with Ciaran and Michelle who told me that Alan was on the wall pictured at Darren’s 18th and they were expecting bigger and better crack at his 30th.

Just in and ready to party were Ryan Moran and Conor Brennan from Kehoe’s Bar and told me they were there to party, but was Ryan going to sing a few tunes I wondered?

Finally, before I departed I met up with Owen and Gillian Corcoran from Roche who are friends and were business neighbours, Gillian had the shop Quaint and they wanted to wish their friend Darren a very happy birthday and hoped he had a fantastic night.
