Dundalk’s leading lights

-

DUNDALK FC’s players, manager, owners and staff lit up a dark November evening as they were presented a civic honour award by Dundalk Municipal District to mark the sporting achievements in 2016.

Thousands of supporters and well-wishers crammed into Courthouse Square on Saturday for the event, which also provided the perfect opportunity for manager Stephen Kenny to perform the honour, along with municipal district chairman, Cllr. Mark Dearey, to switch on Dundalk town centre’s new Christmas lights.

Cllr. Dearey presented the civic honour award to Dundalk FC in recognition of their outstanding achievement in winning a third consecutive League of Ireland title in 2016 and their performance in the Europa League this year. Chief Executive of Louth County Council, Joan Martin, and invited guests were in attendance at the presentation at the Town Hall.

Ms Martin said: ‘Louth County Council congratulates players and coaching staff on their outstanding achievements in 2016. We are delighted to be a position to honour the team in their home town.

‘ This was an opportunity for the people of Dundalk to recognise the manner in which the players, officials, management and fans of the club have represented the town of Dundalk with distinction at home and abroad’.

The team was presented with a signed and sealed scroll to mark the civic honour.
