‘ALL’ RIGHT ON
TEAMS from all over county Louth competed in the first Allianz Cumann na mBunscol finals of the school year recently. The finals took place over two days in The Grove Field and under lights in Darver.
On a sunny Saturday morning, three finals were contested in Castlebellingham. In the first game Dromiskin NS faced Muchgrange NS for the right to lift Corn Setanta. The girls of Dromiskin were in their first final and their inexperience showed initially as they trailed by four points at the half-time interval. However, a stern half-time team talk spurred them into life as they clawed their way back to within touching distance of their opponents from Muchgrange. In the dying moments a flurry of goals from the team from North Louth ensured that the trophy made its way back to the peninsula.
In Sciath Uí Dhuinneachdha the boys from Monksland played Walshestown in a hugely entertaining affair. The game ebbed and flowed with the lead changing hands on numerous occasions. In the end a last-gasp point gave Walshestown their second win in the competition over the past few years.
In the final game the girls of Ballapousta played Bellurgan for the right to hoist Corn Sheán Mac Cába. Both teams have been overshadowed recently by the success of the boy’s teams in their school, but with the level of skill and determination on display this certainly won’t be the case for much longer. Holding a two point lead going into the second half Bellurgan looked the stronger of the two teams, but a resurgent Ballapousta claimed
