Greenore siblings light up RTE for Christmas season

- By OLIVIA RYAN

It was an extra special Friday night for brother and sister Aimee and Aaron Collins who were chosen to turn on the Christmas lights at RTE studios ahead of the Late Late Toy Show extravaganza.

Aimee (11) and little brother Aaron (8), from Ballagan in Greenore, won an art competition with RTÉ2’s young people’s news bulletin News2Day to light up the RTÉ campus in Donnybrook in Dublin.

The Louth siblings were thrilled to have had the opportunity of turning the landmark broadcast mast into a giant fairy tree of Christmas illuminations.

The young duo won the amazing opportunity not only to turn on the lights, but also to have their own stories featured on the show, after spending weeks creating four Christmas scenes for the competition.

Needless to say their efforts certainly wowed the judges!

Before they had the very important job of pressing the big green button, Aimee and Aaron were treated to a VIP day at the Donnybrook studios, where they met many of the well known RTE personalities

It might have been the busiest time of year for presenter Ryan Tubridy, but he took time out from the last minute Late Late Toy Show rehearsals to congratulate the Louth siblings and also invited them onto the Toy Show Set.

Sports presenter Marty Morrissey even asked the children to demonstrate their Kick boxing skills - as both are members of the Irish Kickboxing team, rounding off what was an incredible experience for them both.
