Funds presented for Adrian sports trust
THE life and work of the late Det. Garda Adrian Donohoe was celebrated last week as ‘Remembering Adrian’ – fundraisers gathered to present a €15000 cheque for a unique sports scholarship in his memory.
The occasion also included the launch of a live CD of the major fundraising concert which took place in January this year featuring Stewart Agnew, Kathleen Maddy, Leah Kirwan, Liam Lawton, The Priests and St Joseph’s Senior Choir, along with MC Eileen Dunne.
The Remembering Adrian Concert in memoy of the late Detective Garda Donohoe took place in St Joseph’s Redemptorist Church on January 29th this year in front of a capacity audience.
The proceeds from the sale of the ‘Remembering Adrian’ Live CD will join the funds raised by the concert itself in creating a sport scholarship fund for disadvantaged young people.
Speaking at the cheque presentation and live CD launch, concert organiser Kathleen Maddy said:
‘We are thrilled to be able to hand over this cheque for €15000 and launch the live CD. We hope as many people will support us in our latest fundraiser for what is a very special cause in memory of an extremely special man.’
Fellow organiser Stewart Agnew explained the CD was a happy afterthought of the event.
‘We hadn’t originally intended to publish a CD. However, we did make a recording and when we heard it realised what we had to do.’
‘ This concert has received interest and support from all over the world so we hope that both those who were lucky enough to be there on January 29th along with those who couldn’t go along will buy a CD and enjoy the concert.’
In accepting the €15,000 Cheque and launching the CD, Caroline Donohoe said: ‘I want to thank everyone who has been involved with ‘Remembering Adrian’, and to the artists who gave their time and talent to the Concert, and now to this CD.
‘Be assured that the money raised will go towards the Scholarship Scheme which will commence next September.’ The Remembering Adrian CD will be on sale, priced €10, in the coming days from St Joseph’s Redemptorist Office, Kodak Express Dundalk, B Sharp and Carrolls Bookshop in Dundalk along with Sheelans Post Office/ Shop, Riverstown; Barrys Post Office/Shop, Grange, Carlingford and Dans Cafe, Carlingford Village.
The Fundraising Committee also hope to launch an online order facility in the coming days. In the meantime order queries may be sent through to rememberingadrian@gmail. com.
