Last Pearse book ideal for end to 2016

-

THE last literary publication by Padraig Pearse - a book of six short stories in Irish - which was published by Dundalk company Dundalgan Press ( W.Tempest Ltd.) a few weeks before the Easter Rising - has been reissued by the f irm.

Pearse wrote this collection of short stories in Irish called ‘An Mháthair agus Sgéalta Eile’ (The Mother and Other Stories). It was published in W Tempests in early 1916 under the author’s Irish name, P Mac Piarais.

The book has been proudly recreated by the Dundalk company and just a few of the limited edition copies now remain. The book is faithful to the original 1916 edition, with a new preface or ‘ brollach’ by the renowned emeritus professor of Irish at UCD, Liam Mac Mathuna,

It is believed that Harry Tempest, who was involved in the Gaelic Revival that happened around the end of the 19th Century, met the artist, Arthur Murnan and was friends with him.

It was through him that he got to know Pearse and ended up printing the ‘An Mhathair’ book. Dundalgan’s Liam Gaynor said the book sold very well since its launch at the end of the summer and there are just a few remaining.

If you wish to place an order you can chose from a limited facsimile numbered edition with subscription list, hand bound and presented in a handmade cloth-bound slip case for €100. For more information, contact Dundalgan Press at 042 9335376.
