Farmers donate to Bothar campaign
LOCAL FARMERS DONATE LIVESTOCK TO AID POORER COMMUNITIES
LOCAL farmers have joined the international aid agency Bothar in their campaign to provide livestock for families and communities in need around the world.
Bothar’s North East branch have been active in supporting the campaign which sees livestock donated to countries where they are badly needed to help alleviate poverty and hunger.
Spokesman Tom Byrne told the Argus: ‘ We were delighted to welcome the donation of a cow, jointly from local farmers John MvDonnell and Aidan McNally who reared it.’
He explained that the cow will be shipped to Uganda where it will be a ‘ huge benefit’ for families who are struggling to provide food, as part of the ongoing Bothar campaign
Bóthar is the international aid agency that provides poverty stricken families with the means to solve their problems – permanently.
They do this by using livestock in development aid. Bóthar works with a wide variety of animals including cows, goats, chickens, camels and bees.
Bóthar assists needy families to overcome, hunger, malnutrition and poverty in a simple sustainable manner. The living gift of a farm animal gives a struggling family the opportunity to improve their circumstances and, by working with their animal over time, to raise themselves up to a position of relative comfort.

But, Tom Byrne points out, they need the ongoing support of local farmers to continue the campaign which has provided such hope for families in need. ‘We really need farmers to donate, whether its goats or calf heifers.’
Anyone who is in a position to help by donating livestock is asked to contact Tom Byrne at Bothar on 087 9658652.
