Internatio­nal Volunteer Day celebrated

LOUTH Volunteer Centre are this week celebratin­g ‘Internatio­nal Volunteer Day’.

This Monday marked the 31st year of the Internatio­nal Volunteer Day, which celebrates the efforts of volunteers and showcases the difference they make in communitie­s worldwide.

‘So far this year Louth Volunteer Centre volunteers have given over 35,000 hours of support to community and voluntary organisati­ons all across County Louth,’ said Kayleigh Mulligan, from the local centre.

‘ This means that volunteers registered with Louth Volunteer Centre, who were recently recognised in the Best Volunteeri­ng Team category of the Public Participat­ion Network (PPN) awards, have contribute­d a fantastic gift to the community in Louth of €756,000.’

Kayleigh added: ‘ Their support and contributi­ons are making a huge difference in sporting organisati­ons, areas such as mental health, social inclusion, community developmen­t, and indeed for older people, people with disabiliti­es and many more areas where support is needed.

‘Internatio­nal Volunteer Day is a special day to celebrate what is best in our society as a whole – our volunteers!’
