International Volunteer Day celebrated
LOUTH Volunteer Centre are this week celebrating ‘International Volunteer Day’.
This Monday marked the 31st year of the International Volunteer Day, which celebrates the efforts of volunteers and showcases the difference they make in communities worldwide.
‘So far this year Louth Volunteer Centre volunteers have given over 35,000 hours of support to community and voluntary organisations all across County Louth,’ said Kayleigh Mulligan, from the local centre.
‘ This means that volunteers registered with Louth Volunteer Centre, who were recently recognised in the Best Volunteering Team category of the Public Participation Network (PPN) awards, have contributed a fantastic gift to the community in Louth of €756,000.’
Kayleigh added: ‘ Their support and contributions are making a huge difference in sporting organisations, areas such as mental health, social inclusion, community development, and indeed for older people, people with disabilities and many more areas where support is needed.
‘International Volunteer Day is a special day to celebrate what is best in our society as a whole – our volunteers!’
