LOCAL TEACHERS HONOURED
The work of primary school teachers and principals who taught in schools in Dundalk and surrounding areas was marked recently when the INTO Dundalk Branch held a special function in the Crowne Plaza for those teachers and principals who had retired in 2014-2016. The event was attended by family, friends and staff of teachers who have recently retired.
The evening was a celebration of their work and dedication in educating young people at a most formative stage of their lives, introducing them to the world of learning and developing the social skills which they need to advance to post-primary education.
The teachers had guided their young pupils from their first tentative days at school through landmark celebrations including First Communion and Confirmation, introduced them to the reading, writing, maths, and a whole host of subjects, taught them to enjoy music and art and how to play sports. Ms Rosena Jordan INTO President spoke of the good will she felt from family, friends and staff towards the retired teach- ers on the night and on behalf of the I.N.TO thanked them for their great work over the years as educators and role models for countless generations of pupils. She wished them all a long and healthy retirement. Ms Catherine Flanagan District Representative Louth Cavan Monaghan area thanked all retiring teachers for their hard work in their schools and their positive impact on the lives of all the children they have guided and taught throughout their career. Ms Aoibheann Lynch Dun- dalk Branch Secretary (Acting) wished all present and absent retired teachers a happy retirement. She thanked the guest speakers for their contributions and the Committee of Dundalk Branch I.N.T.O for the efforts make to make the night a success.
