THE double round last Sunday week in the 12-hole Winter League competition did the trick for James Coburn as he pipped Raymond Kelly for the highest score of the day. Well that feat repeated itself this week as Raymond with 31 points in the bag from Saturday was once again pipped by a point by James on his second round on Sunday morning. Another repeat feat from last week was that Section Three winner once again was Kevin Haughey who must have liked his first visit to the winners enclosure last week.

With James beating Raymond in Section two Shane Toale was third on 30 points with Seamus McCoy and Damien Reilly next best with 29 each. Section One winner this week was Colin McParland with 29 points one ahead of Jamie Duffy, Paddy Malone and Paul Kelly. With two weeks of play left the overall Sectional winners one-two- three is really getting exciting. Section One sees Benny Tierney 2 points clear of Paul Kelly with Paddy Malone and Pearse Murphy their nearest challengers. Section Two houses the top two scoreres for the last 3 weeks with James holding an 8 point lead over Raymond as Shane Toale and Seamus McCoy head the chasing pack. Section Three has Noel Magill taxying along at the head of affairs with a round in hand over his chasers headed by Colum Quinn and Kevin Haughey.

The first of the Turkey competitions saw the festive bird set out on the road to Dundalk as Tommy Campbell was the winner on a beautiful golfing morning to mark the beginning of December. Tommy held off the challenge of Seamus McCoy with Brendan Brown taking third spot.

Dates to remember: The Annual General Meeting will be held on Jan 15. Any motions or committee nominations must be made in writing to the Secretary Peter by New Year’s Day. Annual Dinner Dance will be held in the clubhouse on January 28.

There is a Christmas Hamper for Raffle in the clubhouse and there will be a golf competition on St. Stephens Day with a table quiz on Saturday Jan 7 with the proceeds of all 3 events organised by Cormac Smyth going to Romanian Aid where he will be heading in February to help out.
