Gerard was a great family man and keen fisherman

GERARD ‘Pop’ Agnew died peacefully at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda on 8 November, 2016. He was aged 74.

Gerard was born to parents James and Bridget Agnew (nee Crilly), and was originally from Barrack Street, Dundalk.

He worked in the Blackthorn factory in Dundalk before joining the Department of Defence in 1972 and served as a soldier until his retirement in 2002.

Gerard was a great family man and a loving father. He married Louise in 1968 and the couple had three children, John, Pat and Paul.

He was a keen fisherman and a dedicated supporter of Sean O’Mahony’s GFC, a team that he played for as a young boy.

In retirement, he spent a lot of time with his grandchild­ren whom he adored.

Gerard will be sadly missed by his wife, Louise (nee Greene); sons, John and Paul; daughter, Pat; son in-law, Paul; daughters-inlaw, Brenda and Sinead; his grandchild­ren, Hannah, Adam, Alfie and Sarah.

He will also be missed by his brother, Jim; sister, Marion and their families.

He was predecease­d by his parents, James and Bridget; his sister, Fidelma and his granddaugh­ter, Grace.

The Defence Forces 27th Battalion and 8th Battalion, along with the O.N.E, formed a guard of honour and acted as pallbearer­s at the funeral.

Also, members of Sean O’Mahony’s GFC formed a guard of honour at the church.

The Month’s Mind Mass will be held on Sunday, 11 December at 12:30pm in the Redemptori­st Church, Dundalk.
