Gravity Rush 2 twice the delight of its predecessor

-

The original Gravity Rush game had many positive facets, but it was controlling Kat - the game’s diminutive and skilled heroine - was the absolute main draw of the game.

With the ability to control her center of gravity and the direction through which gravity acts on her, you could walk on walls and ceilings, and buzz through an awe-inspiring city floating amongst the clouds.

Far more than just a sequel, Gravity Rush 2 goes well beyond anyone’s wildest expectations - expanding massively on the original title.

Gravity Rush 2 is twice the game that its predecessor was, both in terms of scope of adventure and the number of optional missions.

Like the first game, you spend most of your time peacefully flying around looking for key items and characters to move the story along. But when the alien-like Nevi appear, Kat turns full action superhero.

Kat can now pick off small enemies or weaken large brutes from a distance by magically throwing inanimate objects or relying on her kick abilities to get the job done.

Fighting in midair in Gravity Rush 2 feels a lot like it did in the first game: exciting and unusual, and at the mercy of the camera.

It’s relatively easy to look past this issue since the camera only gets temperamental on occasion, but during tense, prolonged battles, this issue isn’t as easy to reconcile.

Between the story line and all the bits and bobs scattered throughout the open world, Gravity Rush 2 is choc-full of a staggering amount of content.

By turns, Kat will have to play investigative reporter, volunteer firefighter, revolutionary, singer and so much more. Beyond the main story there is a metric ton of side-missions to get stuck into.

Throw in combat challenger and scavenger hunts for online competition and, even 20 hours in, it is difficult to see how you could become bored of this terrific game.

Gravity Rush 2 is without a doubt a special game. Without spoiling anything, do yourself a favour and buy this game, get past the first hour-or-so (seriously, stick with it) and enjoy one of the most delightfully surprising games you will have played in a long time. A refreshing start to gaming in 2017.
