Shamrocks get there in the end

-

SHAMROCKS 4 GLASLOUGH VILLA 1 IT took a long while for Shamrocks to translate their territorial dominance into tangible superiority on the score sheet in this top versus bottom clash.

With Shamrocks vying for position at the top end of the table, they made the running from the start.

But the longer the half wore on the more confident the visitors became and they could well have taken the lead during a prolonged period of superiority.

But Shamrocks turned the tables on the visitors when enjoying their best spell in the match. Gorman and Francis McDonnell combined to put the latter clear inside the box and with great composure he steered his shot low inside the post two minutes from the break.

He was denied by the post from making it two nil barely a minute later when a free kick broke to him inside the penalty box and he hit it first time.

A mix-up between the Shamrock goalkeeper and a defender on the by-line presented McEvoy with an open goal to shoot into but from a tight angle his effort drifted past the far post with the aid of a deflection.

From the resulting corner Jakub stretched high to pluck a goal bound header out of the air as it was heading underneath the crossbar.

The play switched almost immediately to the other end and McDonnell with a darting run beat two defenders and shot powerfully to the net.

Michael Goodrim then all but sealed victory when he beat the Glaslough goalkeeper in a race for possession and neatly lobbed the ball into the empty net. Joseph Gorman put it beyond doubt with his shooting finally reaping a dividend.

Literally at the death Glaslough scored what was a consolation in almost immediate response to Joseph Gorman’s long range shot that crept in under the outstretched hands of the Glasslough goalkeeper to complete the Shamrocks tally.
